Babar Azam Under Scrutiny as Pakistan Struggles in World Cup 2023
Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, has been facing questions as his performance with the bat and the team’s overall performance in the 2023 World Cup have been less than satisfactory. Babar has managed to score only 157 runs in five matches so far, including two half-centuries, but at a slow pace. Meanwhile, the Pakistan team is teetering on the edge of elimination after suffering three consecutive losses. Several former cricketers have even called for replacing Babar as the captain. Amidst these criticisms, Pakistan all-rounder Aamir Jamal has come out in support of Babar Azam.
Aamir Jamal’s Support for Babar Azam
Virat Kohli’s Jersey Blunder Sparks Controversy in IND vs. PAK World Cup Match
Aamir Jamal, a 27-year-old all-rounder for Pakistan, voiced his support for Babar Azam. He emphasized that while Virat Kohli faced a four-year slump without much criticism, King Babar faced severe scrutiny when he went through a rough patch. Jamal also backed Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi. Despite not achieving remarkable feats during the World Cup, Jamal encouraged Babar and Afridi to stay strong, reminding them that they are a source of pride for the nation.
It’s important to note that Aamir Jamal has represented Pakistan in only four T20 international matches. He made his international debut under Babar Azam’s captaincy in September 2022. While he is not part of the World Cup squad, Jamal expressed his unwavering support for Pakistan’s team. Pakistan has only two World Cup victories to their name, triumphing over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Currently, they sit in fifth place on the points table with just four points. Their next match in the tournament is against South Africa on October 27 in Chennai.
